Precision Ceramics was established in 1981 by childhood friends, Mark Jackson and Keith Cunning. Shortly after opening, the pair realized that, in order to keep up with EXPENSIVE new emerging technology, it was going to take a teamwork approach. So, they spoke to several friends who were lab owners about their interest in outsourcing Cerestore and Dicor restorations to Precision.
At that time, this was a revolutionary concept, since most crown and bridge laboratories operated in a highly competitive and uncooperative manner, and, trusting another lab with their cases was a scary thought. Soon many labs were utilizing Precision Ceramics' services and we became the country's FIRST "Crown and Bridge Outsourcing Super Center," advertising in "Modern Dental Lab" and eventually with a new publication, "Lab Management Today."
Today, with the high cost of new technology such as CAD CAM systems, laser welders and electrodeposition systems, outsourcing is not just a luxury, but a necessity. New symbiotic relationships have developed that drive our industry today, with dedicated outsourcing labs, and even manufacturer support of the practice.
